Maharashtra CM: Neither ‘Shinde’ nor ‘Fadnavis’ in the Race! Then who?

This development regarding Eknath Shinde’s dialogue with the BJP leaders in Maharashtra, in the wake of post 2024 elections: power for Ministership for Maharashtra CM, increasing support in Shiv Sena.

After the 2024 Maharashtra CM elections, there has been a lot of political activity. Eknath Shinde, the current Maharashtra CM, is holding talks with top BJP leaders in Delhi to strengthen the cabinet and form new alliances.

The main issue is who will be the Maharashtra CM. Shinde wants to continue in this position, but BJP has already fielded its candidate for Devendra Fadnavis. The Mahayuti alliance-the BJP, Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde, and NCP of Ajit Pawar- won the most seats in the election. Shiv Sena supporters have been quite vocal for Shinde, but it remains to be seen who ultimately gets to head the new government.

Shinde’s Visit to Delhi for Crucial Formations in Government

In Maharashtra, CM Eknath Shinde and some other Indian state officials recently shifted to Delhi where they wanted to hold a conversation. With some of the prime leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party such as Amit Shah the current Union Home Minister of India. This topic involved the idea of having the cabinet extended by allowing it to stand for more period which is at the current state as requested before it gets approval from the government to this point it remains suspended.

They were also contemplating the expansion of the alliance with other political groups, like Shiv Sena and BJP. This is significant because they are both awaiting their upcoming elections where they can contest alongside other competitors as seen below. The kind of political representation Shinde’s group is looking for is the only chance to improve in both the state and the federal government as well.

Ower Politics Between BJP and Shiv Sena: Who Will Take Maharashtra?

Already a battle won and emerging triumphant in the forthcoming assembly polls of 2024, the Mahayuti Alliance here consists of three participants – the Bharatiya Janata Party, Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-ruled NCP. In a landslide vote, the Mahayuti coalition won 232 seats wherein the BJP got a maximum of 132 making them the clear majority within that coalition.

The BJP wants the Chief Minister’s position because of its strong performance. They support Maharashtra CM Candidate Devendra Fadnavis, a senior leader, to ensure stability and plan for future elections in 2029.

Eknath Shinde, the current Maharashtra CM, wants to keep his position. He claims election results endorse him and does not want the stop important schemes such as the Ladli Bahin Yojana; moreover, he also would like to keep the MLAs in the Shiv Sena pocket.

Ajit Pawar wants the BJP to get a Chief Ministership so that power is kept equilibrated at every point. High-level deliberations are likely soon over which one will head it. Whosoever emerges would be determining whether it’s stable or not, considering Maharashtra’s state government.

Support to Shinde Grows Among Shiv Sena Workers

Ever since he became the leader of “Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena” after the party split in 2022, Eknath Shinde’s popularity has increased multifold among the Shiv Sena workers. His faction is becoming more popular than others, especially in Thane, the base of the party’s late leader Anand Dighe. Shinde’s focus on welfare programs, like the Ladki Bahin Yojana (which gives financial help to women) and youth training, has made him more popular as a leader who cares about the public.

Shinde is also good at connecting with local Shiv Sena workers. His faction has performed much better in elections compared to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. Many workers find his leadership a continuation of the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray and more attractive as his vision for a stronger Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

Ajit Pawar will be the one to decide who leads Maharashtra.

Maharashtra CM in 2024 make him the leadership figure. Presently, he is the state head of NCP and placed within the Mahayuti alliance that got a big win in this election led by BJP. Ajit Pavar backed this alliance to emerge victorious. He greatly valued the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and had managed to run the entire campaign for this alliance. He concentrated his attention on the important schemes of this government like “Ladki Bahin Yojana” so that it could attract more voters.

This will also give Pawar the crucial role of finalizing who gets what positions in the new government. His NCP wants to have significant portfolios like Finance and local governance. Pawar will have to assist in distributing power among the allies and see to it that NCP gets its due share of leadership roles. His support to leaders like Devendra Fadnavis indicates he wishes to retain the coalition.

Shinde’s Personal Touch: A Visit to His Native Village

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde recently made a visit to his village and hometown, Dare, located in Satara district. It was the first visit after becoming a CM. The people welcomed him with open arms, which reached his heart.
